Leading edge development know-how
NGK maintains above-average investments in research and development. In the 1990s, NGK invested more than 10 million euros just to establish its own Technical Center near Düsseldorf. Here we cooperate closely with the engineers of the automobile manufacturers to optimize spark plugs and glow plugs for the particular engines. The Technical Center has three engine test stands and two dynamometers for this purpose – one of which is in a cold chamber that can simulate temperatures between –40 and +50°C.
Just recently, additional millions have been invested in a new emissions analysis system that can measure gasoline and diesel emissions. The sensor systems of all engine test stands have received an extensive “upgrade”. This makes the Technical Center one of the most modern test facilities for gasoline and diesel engines in all of Europe.
