Today’s technology – today’s successes

In the year 2005 NGK experienced a European premiere. VW was the first European manufacturer to use a glow plug with a full ceramic heating element for the series production of its diesel engines with a particle filter: the NHTC or New High-Temperature Ceramic glow plug. In the same year, Mitsubishi also decided to use the new technology. And since 2007 Mercedes is also using it in diesel engines. Today, NGK has already manufactured 10 million NHTC glow plugs for delivery to automobile manufacturers.

Other current glow plugs used in series productions are the YE05 and YE08. The YE05 is used in smaller diesel engines such as the Peugeot 206 and 207, the Ford Ka, Fiesta and the Toyota AYGO. The YE08 is a high-performance glow plug that ensures optimum operating conditions in the top-range models of the PSA group: for example, in the Peugeot 407, 607 and 807 and in the Citroën C5 and C6.
